Creative Tools for Songwriters (Intermediate) — Zoom

Creative Tools for Songwriters (Intermediate) with Naomi Westwater in Collaboration with Club Passim
This course will focus on deepening your songwriting practice. Instead of waiting for inspiration to strike, we will work on honing the craft of songwriting. Each class will include structured writing time, work-shopping each other’s songs for critique and feedback, and experimenting with songwriting techniques. The class will have strong emphasis on lyrics and storytelling, but will also explore melody, harmony, and rhythm. The class will be tailored to fit the needs of the individuals in the group.

Class topics include: playing with randomness, introducing poetic structures into songwriting, writing with form, and other unconventional ways of writing music. The goal of this course is for students to expand their songwriting tool set and learn more creative techniques. This course is best for intermediate songwriters, people who have already taken a songwriting course, or have been writing songs for 3+ years.
